Sinus Lift Surgery
Sinus Lift Surgery
It is a type of bone grafting surgery needed before placing dental implants in the upper jaw. When a tooth is missing for a long time the bone (alveolar bone) which houses the teeth starts to resorb.
Couple this with increased age of the patient, which causes pneumatization of the sinus(increased size); bone is deficient for dental implants. In such cases, a small surgery is done to lift the sinus floor mucosa (membrane/lining) and place a bone graft.
There are Two Ways:
Indirect sinus lift
- The sinus membrane is lifted without directly seeing it; through the socket of removed teeth or residual alveolar bone.
- Special instruments are used which allow us to do that.
Direct sinus lift
- A small window is made on the lateral bony surface of the sinus without damaging the sinus membrane. Following which the sinus membrane is lifted and a bone graft placed.
The doctor is well experienced to perform such surgeries and has international training for the same in Belgium.
